Modalities and What to Expect

If you are new to message or you'd like to know more about the modalities offered and what to expect, feel free to read the descriptions below

Deep Tissue Massage - This is one of the most popular styles of treatment for athletes with chronic and deep ongoing pain. You also don't need to be an athlete to reap the benefits of this approach. If you have reoccurring pain, trigger points, or a specific trouble area related to work or difficult activities, this modality might be right for you

What to expect during your session: Your session will begin with a short interview to determine your goals. Expect a more intense massage that is catered to your pressure preference. Typically the client will experience a massage that is focused on one muscle or muscle group at a time. Often myofacial release will be used along side deep tissue techniques

Favorite Client Add-Ons: Thermal Roller Therapy, Cupping

Sports Massage - Another popular option with athletes, this approach combines massage with specialized stretching and active techniques to aid recovery and treat deficits in mobility, strength, and function in a specific muscle group or area of soft tissue

What to expect during your session: Typically a sports massage session is a shorter 30 minute session with the client dressed, with a focus on one or two specific areas of concern. Most clients that choose sports massage sessions have a problem area or injury that is preventing them from reaching their training goals. Expect a massage that includes but is not limited to deep tissue techniques, specialized stretching, heat therapy, and/or cupping. Typically a sports massage session is performed lying down, but may also include seated and side lying positions, or moving from a massage table to a massage chair

Swedish Massage - A favorite for relaxation, this technique focuses on the benefits of massage for the person and the body as a whole, which include stress relief, relaxation, improved focus, better sleep, and improved mood

What to expect during your session: A Swedish massage session typically includes a full body massage with smooth gliding strokes catered to your pressure preference. Available in 60 min and 90 min sessions, Swedish massage focuses on the full relaxation effect of massage

Favorite Client Add-Ons: hot towel

Cupping - A surprisingly effective modern variation of traditional Chinese medicine, cupping uses vacuum tools to lift, treat, and increase blood flow to an area of the body, helping to relieve pain and facilitate faster healing

Myofascial Release - This unique modality is typically used in combination with a deep tissue session. Pressure and lifting techniques applied to the upper soft tissue loosens and stretches the body's fascia. Goals of a myofascial release include pain relief and increased mobility. The therapist may also employ myofascial release techniques as a way to reduce the amount of pressure necessary to treat deeper muscles and adhesions, aiding in client comfort during more intense deep tissue therapy session

What to expect during myofascial release: This modality is slower and more deliberate than the typical massage modalities. In fact, often clients may feel as if the massage has stalled when this modality is employed... But, the effects of a myofascial release are undeniable. Expect to feel a firm static pressure and pull of the upper layers of the body that is held for a minimum of 90 second, perhaps longer. After about a minute of application, expect to feel a pulling to release sensation to the areas under and around the application site. Clients often describe feeling a tingling or pricking sensation, accompanied by a feeling of loosening and release of the deeper layers

Lymphatic Facilitation - This is a lighter but highly specialized technique designed to help facilitate the natural movement of lymph through the body. Swelling and inflammation from trauma or injury can lead to a reduction in the natural flow if lymph through the lymphatic vessels of the body. This can lead to further swelling, increased pain, and a build up of toxins on and around a site of pain or injury. As one of the few massage treatments that can often be used on or near an injured area of the body, the benefits of lymphatic facilitation should not be underestimated

Thermal Therapy - The application of heat to the body has been proven to increase blood flow, speed healing, and reduce pain and tension. Resilience Massage offers two forms of thermal therapy you can add when you book your appointment

Hot Towel Treatment - Moist heat is applied to the body with towels heated to your temperature preference. Client favorites are the feet and the neck/shoulder area

Thermal Roller Therapy - This modality is Resilience Massage's own specialized approach to heat application. A reliable client favorite, round stainless steel rollers are used to manually and precisely apply heat and pressure to deeper muscles and tissue. Because of the high heat conductivity of metal, lower temperatures can be used, which allows for deeper heat penetration than with other heat modalities
